Dear Claire,
On behalf of all the public-school teachers in British Columbia, thank you for your courageous and principled stand in defense of the Wells-Barkerville Elementary School.
By your actions, you have set a fine example for all British Columbians who care about equity of access to quality public education for all children - both rural and urban, rich and poor.
Your willingness to engage in a hunger strike, despite the physical risk, gives us hope and inspires us to carry on in our struggle against the unjust cutbacks imposed by the B.C. Liberals and implemented by some school districts.
It was a pleasure to meet with you, Bill, and the many other community members who took time to familiarize us with the situation. I hope you will continue to look to the B.C. Teachers' Federation for support in your efforts to save your community school, and help to reverse the destructive impact of the neo-Liberal agenda for education.
